Steve - Operations Coordinator
We’d like to introduce you to the team that drives us. As part of our #TeamSpotlight, we will be releasing interviews with various team members across all divisions at Q-Line.
What is your role at Q-Line? How long have you been with Q-Line for?
I am the Operations Coordinator based out of Acheson, Alberta. I have been with Q-Line for 5 years this upcoming June.
Can you describe what types of activities you’re involved with in your role? What does a typical day look like?
I am the point of contact for one of our leading customers and also Winter Road loads local to Alberta. I track and organize the units that were loaded the day before and ensure that the plan for the next day is organized and communicated. I also ensure that Winter Road loads are planned for pickup in Alberta and delivery into Yellowknife.
How often and what type of interactions do you have with drivers?
I am in constant contact with local drivers who deal with this specific customer’s loads on a day-to-day basis. In my past role as Planner/Dispatcher I was interacting with all the local drivers out of the Acheson terminal and many of the highway drivers who travel through Alberta.
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
Knowing I am assisting both the customers and my coworkers.
What are some of the challenges associated with your role?
Ensuring that I am keeping track of the more than 300 units from this specific customer that we have loaded in various locations, while still ensuring that Q-Line has drivers and trailers to always be prepared for anything that may come our way.
What does it take to be successful in working in the trucking industry?
I feel you have to have a sense of urgency, attention to detail, ability to communicate and pride of doing a good job.
What are some hobbies you enjoy outside of work?
Woodworking, custom items like etched coffee cups and vinyl decals.
What’s the weirdest/interesting job you’ve ever had?
Bouncer at a night club. You see the oddest things when your job is to people watch.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps and become a police officer.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I was a cook/chef for 12 years before getting into the trucking industry.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would like to finish learning how to play the guitar. I took lessons but haven't picked up the guitar in a while.
What genre of music is your favourite?
Country and Rock.
What do you enjoy the most about working with Q-Line?
The people and the friendships I have gained both with drivers and office staff.
Thanks to Steve for taking the time to chat. Stay tuned for more interviews from the team that drives us!
