Melissa - Recruitment Coordinator
We’d like to introduce you to the team that drives us. As part of our #TeamSpotlight, we will be releasing interviews with various team members across all divisions at Q-Line.
What is your role at Q-Line? How long have you been with Q-Line for?
I am the Recruitment Coordinator at Q-Line. I have been with Q-Line for a year and a half now, I started in April of 2020.
Can you describe what types of activities you’re involved with in your role? What does a typical day look like?
A typical day for me is often spent on the phone. I spend a lot of time interviewing for various opportunities we have available, as well as interacting with our future and current drivers, helping wherever I am needed.
How often and what type of interactions do you have with drivers?
I speak with drivers almost every day, whether it be a potential driver we are looking to hire, a future driver planning on coming for orientation, or our own drivers, helping with any request I can, or directing them on to the appropriate department/person as needed.
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
I enjoy getting to know all different types of people, and I love the excitement a new driver has when they are offered a job with us.
What are some of the challenges associated with your role?
For every new employee, there are unfortunately others who were not selected for that role.
What does it take to be successful in working in the trucking industry?
You need to be willing and able to handle a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment. Even in recruitment, there is always quite a bit going on.
For new drivers, the willingness to learn from those around you and ask questions if you are unsure of something. (& good driving habits!)
What are some hobbies you enjoy outside of work?
Spending time with my husband & family, disc golfing, playing board games, and crocheting.
What’s the weirdest/interesting job you’ve ever had?
Probably the role I'm in now - I've never had a job before this one that had something new happening each day.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Some sort of full-time ministry work.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I've never actually seen the inside of a semi truck.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Learn an instrument - I've never been a musically inclined person, but I always thought it would be cool.
What genre of music is your favourite?
I listen to worship music most of the time.
What do you enjoy the most about working with Q-Line?
I really enjoy Q-Line's values as a company, being a part the team, and building relationships with others.
Thanks to Melissa for taking the time to chat. Stay tuned for more interviews from the team that drives us!
