Devin - Canadian Dispatcher

 

We’d like to introduce you to the team that drives us. As part of our #TeamSpotlight, we will be releasing interviews with various team members across all divisions at Q-Line.



What is your role at Q-Line? Have long have you been with Q-Line for?
I am a Canadian Dispatcher - I come from driving truck and have been with Q-Line for just about 10 years.

Can you describe what types of activities you’re involved with in your role? What does a typical day look like?
A typical day for me starts at 7:00 AM, tracking trucks, making sure everyone is on track to deliver on time, and finding an appropriate load for them to do next.

How often and what type of interactions do you have with drivers?
A lot of interactions helping drivers find their way around the country.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?
I enjoy talking to the drivers about what they are doing and where they are going, and relating with them on the road's scenery and weather.

What are some of the challenges associated with your role?
Lining up something for them to do next and minimizing down time.

What does it take to be successful in working in the trucking industry?
Knowledge of trucks and freight, geographical smarts, sense of direction.

What are some hobbies you enjoy outside of work?
Woodworking, working on cars, and building things with my kids.

What’s the weirdest/interesting job you’ve ever had?
Most interesting job was selling cars in Saskatoon, dealing with all sorts of people buying cars. The weirdest job I ever had was working at a car detail place, cleaning out cars, you can only imagine the things you'd find!

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would love to be a billionaire, but that dream was far off.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I am afraid of heights.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Fly a plane or helicopter.

What genre of music is your favourite?
Christian rock and country mostly. 

What do you enjoy the most about working with Q-Line?
I know this is going to sound rehearsed or played out, but honestly, the people is what makes Q-Line.
